Agility unveils Digit 5 humanoid built to work next to people
Agility Robotics unveiled Digit 5, the next generation of its general-purpose humanoid. The company says Digit 5 is engineered for cooperatively safe work at scale — close to people without the physical safety barriers traditional industrial robots usually need — and cites more than $300 million in multi-year orders (as of May 2026, subject to milestones). Early access is expected in the first half of 2027, with broader availability by end of 2027.
A commercially deployed humanoid line is betting the next generation on sharing floors with people — safety architecture plus NVIDIA Halos — instead of staying behind cages, with named warehouse customers and a dated 2027 rollout window.
Positioning, as Agility tells it: Digit 5 is the first Agility humanoid engineered for cooperatively safe work at scale — work close to people without the traditional physical safety barriers, or cages, that industrial robots usually need. Cooperatively safe here means designed to share a floor with humans.
Safety features, still company: safe human detection using proprietary AI plus multiple sensors, so the robot can avoid people, stop, or sit; visual and auditory safety cues so nearby people can see and hear what it is about to do; and an independent safety controller that decides what to do if someone is too close.
NVIDIA, company plus a named NVIDIA voice: Agility says it is the first launch partner for NVIDIA’s Halos for Robotics platform, pairing Digit 5 with NVIDIA IGX Thor and Halos Core. Halos, as the company uses the word, is NVIDIA’s robotics safety and software stack. Deepu Talla, vice president of robotics and edge AI at NVIDIA, is quoted on the Agility page. File Talla’s name and title as NVIDIA’s, via Agility. His quotes stay in Sources.
Standards, company-attributed — not a completed global rulebook: Agility says Digit already passed an independent OSHA-administered field evaluation for industrial safety on a customer production line. OSHA is the U.S. Workplace safety agency. The company also says it is a project leader and contributor on ANSI/A3 TR R15.108 and ISO 25785-1 drafts — technical reports and a first international humanoid-safety standard still under development.
Hardware upgrades versus Digit 4, still the company’s: repetitive lifts up to 50 lb (22.7 kg), about 40% more payload; a 90-minute runtime battery that charges in 9 minutes — a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio, versus Digit 4’s 2:1 — which the company says enables more than 20 hours of productive work in a 24-hour day; swappable end-effectors, meaning the hand or gripper, on ISO-standard flanges so tools can be changed for the job; 284 lb; 5 feet 11 inches tall; reach up to 7.2 feet.
Field proof, company: Digit 4 has logged more than 65,000 operational hours. Named Digit 4 customers include GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. At GXO’s Flowery Branch site near Atlanta, the company says Digit 4 hit a roughly 100,000-tote milestone at about 98% on-task accuracy.
Orders, company, dated: as of May 2026, more than $300 million in multi-year customer orders for Digit 5, subject to contractual milestones.
Availability, still a company forecast: early access expected in the first half of 2027; general availability for manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution operators expected by the end of 2027. First commercial expansion outside North America is planned for the EU and UK, with an expected CE mark — the usual European safety mark that lets a product be sold there. Digit 5 is not shipping today.
Named voices on the company page: Peggy Johnson, chief executive of Agility; and Deepu Talla, vice president of robotics and edge AI at NVIDIA. Their quotes are color only and stay in Sources.
The same release carries a Churchill Capital Corp XI (Nasdaq: CCXI) boilerplate. That is useful only as context that Agility is pursuing a SPAC path — a blank-check listing vehicle.
Plain English for the rest of the card: humanoid = robot shaped to work in spaces built for people. Cooperatively safe = designed to share floors with humans without cage barriers. Halos = NVIDIA’s robotics safety and software stack, in the company’s wording. OSHA = U.S. workplace safety agency. CE mark = the usual European safety mark for selling into the EU.
