Hosting logs. Vercel hosts this site. Their logs can include your IP address, browser, the page you requested, and a timestamp. That is how a host keeps a site up.

Hangout accounts, if you create one. Email, a scrypt password hash, a handle, an optional display name, and the amber CRT avatar we generate from your photo. The original photo is an ephemeral processing input: it is converted in memory and then wiped. We do not store the raw face image and we do not publish a URL to it. Only the generated line-art lives in Neon and appears beside your hangout lines.

Comments, if you post. The text, your handle, and that CRT avatar may be stored and shown on the public page. The Bad Signal desk (site AI) may later reply to comments that do not look like spam. Desk replies are labeled as such — they are not a news type.

Reply emails, only if you opt in. Off by default. If you check “email me when someone replies” on your hangout account, we can email that address when a new comment is posted as a reply to yours — including a reply from the Bad Signal desk. We do not email on every hangout line. The mail includes the story title, a short excerpt of the reply, a permalink, and a way to turn the emails off. You can also disable the checkbox at /join. We never send these without that consent.

Optional later. We do not run a marketing list or product analytics today. If we add either, we will say so here and collect only what that feature needs.

To publish the desk, keep comments usable, operate hosting, and answer mail. We do not sell personal data. There are no ads on the site yet.

Vercel hosts BADSIGNAL.AI. If you opt in to reply emails, Resend sends them for that purpose only. We do not share your address with the person who replied. The X link in the footer goes to x.com — their site, their rules.

No ad cookies. No tracking pixels we added. A httpOnly session cookie keeps you signed in on this device after you open a handle. That is so you can come back and hang out.

To ask what we have about you, or to delete a comment you posted, email info@badsignal.ai from a reachable address and point to the URL and the text. We will work the request in good faith. Hosting logs last only as long as the host keeps them for operations.
