Knowtex named prime on VA’s $775.72M ambient scribe contract
25 Sep 2026 (ET): Knowtex said the VA Technology Acquisition Center selected it as one of two prime awardees on the Ambient Scribe Enterprise IDIQ — a five-year multiple-award vehicle with a shared $775.72 million ceiling — expanding AI that drafts clinical notes so providers can face the Veteran, not the keyboard.
HEALTH desk — a nine-figure IDIQ is how a federal health system buys software for years, and Knowtex says this note-writing AI is already open for thousands of VA clinicians. The prime seat is the vehicle those orders can run through. The useful question is whether the draft note gives the clinician the visit back, face to face with the Veteran. The release itself says naming VA is not a VA endorsement.
Who awarded it, and what the ceiling is. The VA Technology Acquisition Center awarded the contract on 18 Sep 2026. It is a multiple-award IDIQ with a five-year ordering period and a shared maximum ceiling of $775.72 million across all awardees. Multiple-award means more than one company can receive orders under that same cap. The ceiling is a maximum for the vehicle. It is not a sum Knowtex has already been paid. Those figures are the company’s account of the award.
What a prime seat is for. Knowtex says it is one of only two companies named a prime awardee, and that it contracts directly with VA. The work is cloud-based ambient scribe software. An ambient scribe listens to a clinical visit and drafts the note, so the clinician can look at the person in the room. The release says the software captures clinical encounters, generates draft notes, and delivers coding, order entry, and clinical intelligence integrated with VA electronic health record systems. An electronic health record, or EHR, is the chart system. The release’s line is that providers can face the Veteran, not the keyboard.
How Knowtex says it got here. The company says it has worked with VA since a 2024 AI Tech Sprint, when it was one of two ambient AI vendors selected from more than 150. In October 2025, VA awarded Knowtex a $15 million contract. In February 2026, VA gave a green light for nationwide primary care implementation. Those dates and that $15 million are the company’s.
Where it says the software already runs. Knowtex says it is deployed in 79 VA medical centers and more than 310 total VA facilities across 10 VISNs, and that more than 7,000 VA clinicians use the platform. A VISN is a Veterans Integrated Service Network, a regional group of VA hospitals. 79, 310, 10, and 7,000 are the company’s counts.
The results the company cites, kept as the company’s. Knowtex cites more than 450,000 hours of documentation time saved, 88 percent sustained clinician adoption, and a 4.5 out of 5 average satisfaction across more than 5,100 clinician ratings. It says Kansas City VA assessed Veteran trust and patient satisfaction rising from 92 percent to 95 percent. Hours saved, adoption, the rating, and that Kansas City move are the company’s.
The lab line in this release, which is an earlier filing. On 15 Sep 2026 Knowtex launched what it calls the first frontier AI lab for healthcare and published KnowBench on arXiv. The platform’s Effort Reduction score is cited at 97.99 percent. First is the company’s word. This filing is the VA IDIQ prime award.
What else the company says the platform does. It supports more than 200 specialties. It is EHR-agnostic, meaning it is not locked to one chart vendor. Beyond VA, Knowtex says it serves more than 300 organizations. Those counts are the company’s.
The limit printed on the release. Reference to VA does not constitute or imply VA endorsement. A prime award on a shared ceiling is not a VA seal on the product, and it is not a promise that orders will use the full $775.72 million.
What the card shows. The card is Knowtex’s clinical ambient product UI: a patient face sheet, an HGB trend, a laboratory panel, and a Record control, set in a dark brand margin. HGB is hemoglobin, a blood measurement. The face sheet is a product sample. The $775.72 million ceiling is not printed as a caption on this card. The card has no desk date laid over it.
Plain English for the rest of the card. Knowtex says VA picked it as one of two companies that can sell ambient note-writing software straight to the department, under a five-year order vehicle whose shared cap is $775.72 million. The company says the tool is already in 79 VA medical centers, more than 310 VA facilities, and the hands of more than 7,000 VA clinicians. The pitch is a draft note, so the visit is spent looking at the Veteran. The release says naming VA is not a VA endorsement. The 15 Sep lab launch is a different story, knowtex-frontier-ai-lab. The card is the product screen.

On 25 Sep 2026 Knowtex said it was named a prime awardee on the VA Ambient Scribe Enterprise contract. VA is the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the federal health system for veterans. The vehicle is an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract, or IDIQ: the agency can place orders over time, up to a shared ceiling, instead of writing one fixed check.
