Empatica's WellPD puts an FDA-cleared Parkinson's tracker on the wrist, for home use
Empatica launched WellPD on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, an FDA-cleared and CE-marked wrist-worn device and companion app that lets people with Parkinson's monitor their symptoms at home.
Where to buy
Parkinson's symptoms swing hour to hour as medication kicks in and wears off, and a 15-minute clinic visit catches almost none of it. WellPD's pitch is to replace "how was your week?" with two weeks of measured tremor and movement data. The tech isn't new — the PKG algorithms have been used in hospitals and drug trials for years — but selling it straight to patients for home use is. The open questions are the ones every medical wearable faces: whether neurologists actually change doses based on the summaries, and whether insurers pay for it.
Empatica announced WellPD on Oct. 28, 2026: a wearable and a companion app for people with Parkinson's to monitor symptoms at home. Empatica says the device is FDA-cleared and CE-marked. FDA clearance is the U.S. decision that a device is close enough to one already sold. This clearance is 510(k) K260374, the Empatica Health Monitoring Platform for PD Monitoring. PD is Parkinson's disease. A 510(k) is the application that clearance uses. CE marking is the European mark that lets a device be sold there. Those lines are Empatica's, from its press release on PR Newswire the same day.
The wrist-worn device tracks motor symptoms: tremor, dyskinesia, and bradykinesia, plus sleep and activity. A tremor is the shake. Dyskinesia is extra, involuntary movement that can show up when Parkinson's medication is working too hard. Bradykinesia is slowness of movement. Clinically validated algorithms turn movement and other body signals into those measurements. Clinically validated, here, means the math was checked against clinical observation, not only a demo. Those lines are Empatica's.
The app puts the measurements next to medication logs and daily summaries. People can see how symptoms fluctuate, spot changes around medication doses, and share the patterns with their care teams instead of relying on memory or a paper diary. Those lines are Empatica's.
WellPD builds on PKG Health, which Empatica acquired in 2025. Empatica says its PKG algorithms are backed by more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and used in more than 150 hospitals and clinical sites. A peer-reviewed publication is a paper other researchers checked before it ran. Those lines are Empatica's.
Empatica's product page says the device weighs 11 grams, is waterproof, and offers 14 days of battery life. Shipping begins Nov. 23. Those specs are Empatica's, on the product page.
WellPD can be ordered now in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and 14 European Economic Area countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Sweden. That list is Empatica's, on the release.
The store page says shipping to U.S. territories requires a prescription from a U.S. healthcare practitioner. The buyer uploads that prescription after checkout. That requirement is Empatica's, on the product page.
Chief executive and co-founder Matteo Lai said, "With WellPD, we're bringing years of work in wearable technology and Parkinson's research into a comfortable device that can be worn at home." That quotation is his, on the release.
Dr. Alessandro Di Rocco, system director for Parkinson's and Movement Disorders at Northwell Health, said, "Digital wearables can transform a complex mix of symptoms into clear, accurate, and actionable data." That quotation is his, on the release.

In plain terms, Empatica on Wednesday put an FDA-cleared wrist device on sale for home use. It measures tremor, extra involuntary movement, slowness, sleep, and activity, then lines those up with a medication log. The algorithms come from PKG, a system already used in hospitals. The device weighs 11 grams, is waterproof, and runs 14 days. Shipping starts Nov. 23. Orders are open in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and 14 European countries.
