Google launches a Gemini desktop app for Windows

Google published a native Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and 11, with an Alt + Space shortcut that opens Gemini over the user’s active work.

Google put Gemini on the Windows desktop with a system-wide shortcut — still the PC most people use.

Google published “The Gemini app is now available for Windows.” The Keyword post announces a native Gemini desktop app for Windows PCs. Erin Pettigrew, Director of Product Management, Gemini App, is the named author. That company blog is the primary.

The headline feature on the page is a press of Alt + Space at any time to open Gemini over the user’s active work — fact-check, titles, brainstorm — without leaving the current screen.

Google says the app includes a dedicated workspace for existing Gemini uses, including handing multi-step tasks to Gemini Spark (described as a 24/7 personal AI agent) and drafting summaries by pulling from Google apps such as Gmail and Google Drive.

Creative tools named on the same post are custom images with Nano Banana and video with Gemini Omni, from the desktop app.

Google frames the app as “lightweight and quiet” and says it runs without slowing down the PC. More native desktop capabilities are “rolling out over time.”

The app is available today globally for Windows 10 and 11; download at gemini.google/desktop.

A footer caveat on the same post says “Google AI subscription required. Availability varies. 18+.” That is Google’s framing — not a desk pricing card.
