Google puts €13 billion into Finnish AI infrastructure

Confirmed 9 Sep 2026 on Google’s press corner. Largest single European investment, the company says. Job counts are Google’s model, not a payroll.

9 Sep 2026: Google said it will invest at least €13 billion in digital infrastructure in Finland over 2027–2028 — data centers and supporting kit in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala — calling it the company’s largest single investment in Europe.

Google: during construction it expects an annual average of €3.6 billion added to Finland’s GDP and more than 37,000 jobs nationwide, including about 16,000 in construction; once operational, 7,000 jobs a year. Those are Google’s estimates.

Google announced a 22-year life-extension power-purchase agreement with Fortum tied to the Loviisa nuclear plant. BBC reported Google will buy up to half of that plant’s output. Fortum published its own PPA note the same day.

Google also listed new onshore-wind PPAs bringing supported new-to-grid wind to 629 MW, and a contracted 94 MW battery near Kajaani expected in late 2027.

Reuters the same day put the package at about $15.1 billion and said three new northern data centers sit on top of the existing Hamina site.

A dated, primary capex-and-watts filing. The euros and the nuclear PPA are on the page. The 37,000-job line is Google’s construction-phase model.
