IBM releases Granite Time Series PatchTST-FM-r2 at about 385M parameters

9 Sep 2026: IBM Research published Granite Time Series PatchTST-FM-r2 — about 385M parameters — on a Hugging Face blog and model card. GIFT-Eval ranks and “SOTA” lines are IBM/HF claims, dated on those pages.

9 Sep 2026: IBM Research published “IBM releases SOTA Granite Time Series PatchTST-FM-r2 model with commercial-friendly license” on the Hugging Face blog, with weights at ibm-granite/granite-timeseries-patchtst-fm-r2. That pair is the filing event.

IBM: the model is about 385M parameters. Specs on the card and blog: context up to 8,192; 30 conformer blocks (up from 20 in r1); 50% overlapping patches; a 99-quantile prediction head; dual license Apache 2.0 or OpenMDW 1.0. granite-tsfm >= 0.3.9 is the listed inference path.

GIFT-Eval lines are IBM/HF’s, and the dates differ across the two primaries. Model card: as of 31 Aug 2026, top-performing zero-shot model under a permissive commercial-friendly license, and #2 among replicable zero-shot models (CRPS and MASE). Blog: as of 8 Sep 2026, same #2 / first-among-permissive framing, with geometric-mean CRPS 0.467 and MASE 0.6846. IBM also says that with pretrained models included it ranks 3rd CRPS / 4th MASE among replicable entries. This desk did not rerun GIFT-Eval. The card notes the r2 scores were in a pending GIFT-Eval PR at publication.

A dated IBM/HF weight drop plus blog is a product filing. File the ~385M ship and the dual license. Leave GIFT-Eval ranks, the SOTA headline, and the 8 Sep / 31 Aug snapshots as IBM/HF’s dated claims.
