Meta buys Conductor, the app for running a fleet of AI coding agents
Conductor said on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, that it is joining Meta. The startup makes a Mac app that lets developers run and coordinate several AI coding agents in parallel; Axios first reported the acquisition, and financial terms were not disclosed.
Coding is where AI is actually getting paid, and the big labs now want to own the screen developers work in, not just the model behind it. Meta just bought a team that built one of the slicker agent-wrangling apps and sent it straight to its superintelligence lab. If you're a Conductor user, the practical news is less exciting: export your cloud workspaces before Nov. 20.
Conductor announced that it is joining Meta, and active Conductor Cloud subscribers will get refunds. Axios first reported that Meta acquired the company. Financial terms were not disclosed. The joining and the refunds are Conductor's. The acquisition, and the fact that no price was published, are Axios's report.
Conductor was founded in 2024 by chief executive Charlie Holtz and chief technology officer Jackson de Campos, and it launched in July 2025. It is a Mac app that lets developers run multiple AI coding agents in parallel. In parallel means several agents working at the same time, instead of one chat you wait on. Those lines are Conductor's.
Charlie Holtz wrote on X that the team will work with Nat Friedman and Alexandr Wang at Meta Superintelligence Labs, shortened to MSL. That line is Holtz's.
The wind-down, from Conductor: as of Nov. 4, new users can no longer sign up or download the app, and existing pro users keep pro features for free. Conductor Cloud goes read-only on Nov. 13 and shuts down on Nov. 20, when Conductor begins deleting Cloud user data. The local app keeps getting new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027. Those dates are Conductor's.
Conductor said the team has "big, crazy plans for the next interface" and hopes to have something new early next year. That line is Conductor's.
On the same day, OpenAI said it plans to acquire Pierre Computer Company, another developer-tools startup. That is OpenAI's statement of a plan. Conductor's announcement said: "If you liked Conductor, you're gonna love what's coming."

In plain terms, Meta bought the team behind a Mac app for running several AI coding agents at once, and nobody published a price. New people cannot sign up. Conductor Cloud shuts down Nov. 20, and the company says it starts deleting that cloud data then. The app on a developer's own computer is slated for model updates and critical fixes into early 2027. The same day, OpenAI said it plans to buy another developer-tools startup, Pierre Computer Company.
