Microsoft ships Copilot super app with Home, Code, and Autopilot

Microsoft unveiled its biggest Copilot update yet — a redesigned app with Home (Chat + Cowork), Code for building cloud-hosted apps inside a company’s tenant, Autopilot (the Scout agent rebranded) as a long-running digital teammate, and full Word, Excel, and PowerPoint inside Copilot. CEO Satya Nadella called it a new OS for work.

It lets a person create an app, a tracker, a dashboard, or an automation and share it as a cloud-hosted internal app. Spataro, in that piece, said it is powered by the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot, runs in a sandboxed environment, and can be hosted securely within the tenant. The Verge says Cowork, Code, and Autopilot, plus long-running agent work and models such as Astra and Fable, are on usage-based billing, so the company pays for what gets used. The regular license, which The Verge calls a user subscription license, still covers Copilot in Chat and in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. The Verge says IT admins use a tool it calls FinOps for AI to manage that spend. Reuters says Microsoft also unveiled cost-management so employees can see the costs tied to their own AI usage.
