Tractian, the startup that listens to factory machines so they don't break, is now a $1.4 billion company
Tractian said on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, that it has raised a $130 million Series D led by Sapphire Ventures and co-led by M&G's Catalyst, valuing the company at $1.4 billion.
"Physical AI" usually means humanoid robots doing backflips. Tractian is the less glamorous version: a sensor on a pump that notices it's about to die. That's exactly why it's interesting. The AI data-center boom is mostly a giant pile of chillers, compressors and backup generators, and every one that fails costs real money. Tractian already sells into that world and is close to $100 million in annual revenue, which is more than most AI unicorns can say. The open question is whether hardware plus software can keep growing at software speeds, or whether installing sensors in thousands of plants stays stubbornly, physically slow.
Tractian said it raised $130 million in a Series D, a later-stage venture round, led by Sapphire Ventures and co-led with M&G's Catalyst. The round values the company at $1.4 billion, the price the deal puts on the whole company. Also participating: N47, General Catalyst, Bosch Ventures, 53 Stations, Monashees, Endeavor Catalyst, Norte Ventures, and Y Combinator. Sapphire also led the Series C, the previous round. Those lines are Tractian's, in its Oct. 22 announcement.
Tractian puts its own sensors on industrial machines. The sensors pick up vibration, ultrasound, and other signals, and the software builds a live picture of each machine's condition. Its AI, which Tractian says is trained on one of the largest sets of industrial-failure data, names the root cause, the underlying reason a machine is heading for trouble, and recommends what to do. Those lines are Tractian's.
Tractian names customers including Eli Lilly, McKesson, Whirlpool, Coca-Cola bottlers, Cummins, and Embraer, plus data-center and government customers it does not name. It says more than 2,000 facilities use the system. Those lines are Tractian's.
Valor reports that Tractian was founded in São Paulo in 2019. The company says it is now headquartered in Atlanta, with offices in Monterrey, São Paulo, and Poland, and more than 700 employees. The founder and chief executive is Igor Marinelli. He said, “I grew up watching my father work as a maintenance technician at a paper mill, and I saw how backwards the tools were for the people keeping those machines alive.” That quotation is his, from the announcement.
Valor, in a same-day story by Guilherme Guerra, reports that annualized revenue is close to $100 million, about half of it from the United States. Annualized, here, means the current pace of sales stretched over a year. Valor also reports that the new money goes mostly to research and development over five years, including training models and buying Nvidia chips, and that Marinelli expects Tractian to start generating cash in 2027. Generating cash means money coming in covers money going out. It is not a reported profit. The release does not say Tractian is profitable. Valor calls Tractian Latin America's most valuable AI startup, just ahead of the legal-tech company Enter, which Valor puts at $1.2 billion. Those figures are Valor's, not lines in Tractian's release.
The release cites a Siemens estimate: unplanned downtime costs the 500 largest industrial companies about 11% of revenue, roughly $1.4 trillion a year. That number is Siemens's, quoted by Tractian. It is the size of the problem, not a savings figure Tractian claims for itself.

In plain terms, Tractian said on Thursday that Sapphire and M&G's Catalyst led a $130 million round that values the company at $1.4 billion. It sells sensors and software that listen to factory machines and flag what is about to fail. Valor puts the sales pace near $100 million a year. The company did not report a profit.
