Verda raises $189M Series B, becomes Europe AI-cloud unicorn

Helsinki AI cloud company Verda announced $189 million (€163 million) in new funding, including an oversubscribed Series B led by Emergence Capital, and said the round makes it Europe’s latest unicorn.

FINANCE desk — European neocloud capital is still flowing even as some data-center IPO plans wobble.

What kind of round. The page says the financing includes an oversubscribed Series B led by Emergence Capital, plus additional investment. A Series B is a later private funding round, after the earliest seed checks. Oversubscribed means the company says more investors wanted in than the round had room for. The press release names who joined: MUFG Innovation Partners, Supermicro, Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company, Lifeline Ventures, 6 Degrees Capital (6DC), byFounders, Tesi (Finnish Industry Investment Ltd), and angel investors including Ola Tørudbakken and Mark Saroufim (Core Automation and GPU MODE). The opening summary shortens that list and adds “and others.” File the names as Verda’s. This desk did not see the shareholder list.

The unicorn word, and the limit on price. Verda says the financing makes it Europe’s latest unicorn. In startup finance, a unicorn is a private company people value above $1 billion. Verda’s page uses that word. It does not print an exact dollar valuation. Tech.eu’s same-day story says that, according to the company, the round values Verda at over $1 billion. File “over $1 billion” as Tech.eu’s line, attributed to the company. Do not tighten it. The about box on Verda’s page says total funding is now above $450 million. That figure is money raised. It is not the valuation.

The revenue line is the company’s. Verda says the announcement comes after it reached a $165 million annualized revenue run rate in July. A run rate takes a recent stretch of sales and stretches it to a full year. Annualized means that year-sized figure. $165 million is Verda’s July number. This desk did not see the books.

What the money is for. Verda says the funding lets it speed product work across every layer of its AI cloud, from compute capacity to platform services for frontier AI teams. Compute capacity is how much machine time it can sell. It says it will invest in areas including inference, and that it plans to multiply its compute capacity over the next year. Inference is running an already-trained model to answer a request. It is not the training step that builds the model. “Multiply” is the company’s plan for the next year. It is not a machine count this desk has seen.

Who Verda says it is. Founded in 2020 in Helsinki. The page says it manages everything from physical data centers and hardware to the cloud platform and AI research. A data center is a building full of computers. It says it recently opened offices in London and San Francisco, and that it plans to expand further across Europe, the United States, and Asia. The about box says it employs around 250 people from more than 40 nationalities, is headquartered in Helsinki, and operates across Europe, the US, and Asia. Around 250 is the company’s headcount. This desk did not count the staff.

Two quotes, as color only. Ruben Bryon, founder and chief executive, said AI is becoming critical infrastructure, that the next few years are a pivotal window for Europe, and that the north star is to build “the first true tech company in Europe,” with AI infrastructure as the starting foundation, and to bring down the carbon footprint of compute. A carbon footprint, here, is the climate cost of running those machines. Joe Floyd, general partner at Emergence Capital, said demand for AI compute is insatiable, that the gap between demand and supply is growing, and that Verda is moving quickly to secure and scale capacity. File the names, the titles, and those sentences as the page’s. A quote is not a capacity measurement, and it is not a climate audit.

Do not fill in a price the page left as a word. Do not print a valuation more exact than “unicorn,” or than Tech.eu’s “over $1 billion, according to the company.” Do not read the about-box investor list as this round’s roster. That sentence also names J12 Ventures and Skaala, next to the round’s names, as backers of the total funding. They are not in the press release’s list of who joined this financing. Do not turn “multiply compute capacity” into a megawatt figure. None is on the page.

Plain English for the rest of the card: Series B = a later private funding round. oversubscribed = the company says demand for the round exceeded the room in it. unicorn = a private company valued above $1 billion. Verda used the word and did not print an exact price. run rate = recent revenue stretched to a year. annualized = that year-sized figure. neocloud = a cloud built to sell AI computing. full-stack = buildings, machines, and the software that rents them. inference = running a trained model, not training it. data center = a building full of computers. €163 million = the euro figure Verda prints beside $189 million. This filing is the 22 Sep announcement. It is not a priced public listing.

PRIMARY here: Verda’s 22 Sep 2026 blog, “Verda raises $189M/€163M to accelerate development of its full-stack AI cloud and multiply compute capacity,” datelined Helsinki, 10 a.m. EEST — Tier A PRIMARY, the company’s own record. Tech.eu’s same-day story is an independent wrap, not a substitute primary. The $189 million and €163 million figures, the oversubscribed Series B led by Emergence Capital, the named participants, the “and others” line, the Europe’s-latest-unicorn sentence, the above-$450 million total funding, the $165 million July run rate, the plan to multiply compute capacity and to invest in inference, the 2020 Helsinki founding, the London and San Francisco offices, the around-250 headcount, and the Bryon and Floyd lines are Verda’s. The “over $1 billion, according to the company” line is Tech.eu’s. NOT claimed: a valuation tighter than unicorn or that over-$1-billion attribution, that J12 Ventures or Skaala joined this round, a megawatt count, that this desk audited the books or the shareholder list, a stock tip, or investment advice. Distinct from the already-filed softbank-openai-bonds, amd-1-trillion-market-cap, and neosapience-kosdaq-ipo.

On 22 Sep 2026, Helsinki company Verda published that it raised $189 million in new funding, which it also writes as €163 million. The record is Verda’s own blog. The page stamp is Sep 22, 2026. The byline is Jani Hellström, head of communications. The press-release block is datelined Helsinki, Finland, 10 a.m. EEST on Tuesday 22 September. EEST is Eastern European Summer Time, three hours ahead of UTC, so that line is 3:00 a.m. in New York. Verda calls itself a full-stack AI cloud. Full-stack, here, means it runs the buildings, the machines, and the software a customer uses to rent that computing. A neocloud is the industry word for a cloud company built to sell AI computing, rather than general web hosting. These lines are Verda’s. This desk did not audit the round.
