Apple's HomePod mini 2 brings Siri AI to the $149 speaker can, and preorders are open
Apple announced HomePod mini 2 on Oct. 13, 2026, with preorders at $149 and availability beginning Friday, Oct. 30; Siri AI arrives on the speaker in a future software update.
Where to buy
Apple just put its next-gen voice model on the cheapest speaker it sells, which is the move that matters more than another iPhone keynote slide. Preorders are open, it ships Friday, $149, five colors — and the brain arrives later over the air, which is Apple's way of selling the hardware before the feature is fully cooked. The four-speaker surround trick with the new Apple TV 4K is the living-room hook; the six-voice household recognition and "find the song from that text" personal-context pitch is the AI hook. Whether Siri AI on a puck actually feels like a conversation, or just a better Music search with a light, will be decided in that future software update — not in the press release.
Apple's Newsroom post announcing HomePod mini 2 is dated Oct. 13, 2026. The page says it can be pre-ordered in pink, green, blue, white, and midnight, with availability beginning Friday, October 30. The U.S. price is $149. Those lines are Apple's. Preorders are open on Apple's store page for the speaker.
Siri AI is coming to HomePod mini 2 in a future software update. Apple says it is a more capable and conversational assistant, with personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, including richer music discovery, and the ability to tap into more apps. Those lines are Apple's. The update is later. It is not on the speaker the day you unbox it.
When paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, HomePod mini can tap into a user's personal context. Apple Intelligence, here, is Apple's on-device AI feature set. Personal context means the assistant can use what is already on that person's phone. HomePod mini can recognize up to six users in a household by their voice and securely connect to their device across apps like Messages and timers. Those lines are Apple's.
Apple says Siri AI can privately act on that context across a user's iPhone and iPad apps. The examples Apple prints: finding a song a friend recommended in a text, setting a reminder tied to a calendar event or a location, locating a recipe from an email, or adding ingredients to a grocery list. Those examples are Apple's.
Once Siri AI is enabled on a supported HomePod mini, even users without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad get Siri AI's broad world knowledge, richer conversations, and improved music discovery. Those lines are Apple's. The personal-context tricks above still need the paired phone or tablet. The general knowledge does not.
The speaker is powered by the Apple S10 chip and what Apple calls advanced computational audio. Computational audio means software shapes the sound, rather than the drivers alone. Users can use a single speaker, a stereo pair, or multiroom audio. For the first time, users can create a four-speaker surround sound experience with Apple TV 4K (4th generation) and HomePod mini 2. The speakers and Apple TV 4K recognize each speaker's position and calibrate timing and levels. Those lines are Apple's.
Kaiann Drance, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Home Product Marketing, said: "HomePod mini 2 brings together Siri AI, gorgeous new colors, and incredible audio." She also said that with Siri AI "it understands you better than ever," and that paired with the new Apple TV 4K it is "our most immersive home theater setup yet." That quotation is hers, on Apple's Newsroom page.

In plain terms, Apple's HomePod mini 2 is a $149 speaker in five colors. Preorders are open. It reaches stores on Friday, Oct. 30. The S10 chip and a four-speaker surround setup with the new Apple TV 4K are in the hardware. The conversational Siri, including the six-voice household recognition and the "find the song from that text" pitch, arrives in a later software update.
