Axon's Body 5 bodycam has 25x the AI power, and the Pro model scans licenses for warrants
Axon announced Axon Body 5 on Oct. 24, 2026, its newest body-worn camera, which the company says delivers 25 times the AI processing power of earlier-generation Axon cameras and comes for the first time in two versions, Body 5 and Body 5 Pro.
Body cameras were sold to the public as accountability tools: a record of what happened. Body 5 is pitched as something else, a copilot that reads IDs, runs warrant checks, translates and flags "potential conflicts" as they unfold. That's genuinely useful for an officer at a roadside, and it's also a big quiet shift: an AI watching every recorded encounter for signs of trouble, feeding a real-time ops center. Axon says a human reviews every Escalation Detection alert, which is the right answer and also the part to watch, since "detect potential conflicts" hasn't been defined publicly or tested independently. 25x the compute is a spec; what agencies let it decide is the story.
Axon says Body 5 delivers 25 times the AI processing power of earlier-generation Axon body cameras. A body-worn camera is the camera clipped to an officer's chest. The company says a new computing architecture is meant to run current and future AI features on the camera itself. Those lines are Axon's, in its Oct. 24 release.
Both models get improved video, including better low-light, better connectivity, and more precise location. Axon also says battery life is 20% longer than the previous generation. Those lines are Axon's.
Body 5 Pro adds a dedicated near-focus camera lens so an officer can scan a driver's license, check its status, and search for wants or warrants in seconds, without walking back to the patrol car. A want or a warrant is the flag that says a person is being sought. Axon says the results go to Axon Fusus, its real-time operations platform, the system that shows an agency what is happening while it is still happening. Those lines are Axon's.
Body 5 Pro also adds four front-facing speakers that project audio toward the person an officer is talking to. The point is to help real-time translations from Axon Assistant carry over traffic or crowd noise. The Pro model also adds extra memory so several AI tools can run at once. Those lines are Axon's.
Axon also introduced Axon Guardian, which it calls a new category of AI safety features. Escalation Detection works when an Axon Body 4 or Body 5 camera is recording. Guardian can detect potential conflicts in real time and create an alert in Axon Fusus. A human reviews the livestream and decides whether more support is needed. Approach Alert runs on Axon Fleet 3 in-car systems. Guardian can detect if the door of a stopped vehicle opens and alert the officer through the in-car display and the body camera. Those lines are Axon's.
Founder and chief executive Rick Smith said: "Officers shouldn't have to choose between getting information and watching the scene. With Axon Body 5, they don't." That quotation is his, in the release.
Axon's existing AI tools include Draft One, which turns body-camera audio into police report drafts, and Axon Assistant, a voice tool for pulling up information and for translation. Those names are Axon's.
Axon says Body 5 and Guardian prioritize human oversight and agency control over data, guided by its Ethics and Equity Advisory Council. An agency, here, is the department that controls the cameras and the data. Axon says general availability dates for Body 5 and Guardian "will be announced soon." It did not give a price. Those lines are Axon's.

In plain terms, Axon said on Oct. 24 that Body 5 puts 25 times the AI processing power of earlier Axon body cameras on the officer's chest, in two models. The Pro model can scan a license for wants or warrants and throw translated audio at the person in front of the officer. Guardian can flag a possible conflict on a recording, or a car door opening, and a person still decides what happens next. Axon has not posted a price or a date you can order one.
