Meta launches Enterprise Platform, hires MongoDB’s CJ Desai to run it

Meta on Monday said it is starting Meta Enterprise Platform, a new major pillar of the company that will bring its AI models, agents, and tools — including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code — to businesses and developers, and named Chirantan “CJ” Desai, who stepped down as MongoDB CEO the same day, as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer reporting to Mark Zuckerberg.

Meta is not only selling ads and a consumer version of Muse. It just named a new company pillar and hired MongoDB’s chief executive to sell Muse, coding tools, and business agents to companies, and MongoDB’s stock sold off the same day he left.

On Monday, 28 September 2026, Meta founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said the company is starting Meta Enterprise Platform. He called it the next major pillar of the business, built to help companies use AI to grow. The statement is on Meta’s newsroom. He wrote that Meta already serves billions of people and helps hundreds of millions of businesses reach customers, and that this pillar is the next step: those businesses using AI themselves.

What that first cut includes, in Zuckerberg’s words. He said the platform will start by bringing Meta’s full technology stack to businesses and developers. The names on the page are the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code, and he adds “and more.” An API is a doorway other software uses to call a service. Muse Code is the name Meta prints for the coding tool in that list. The newsroom does not print a price, a date when companies can buy a finished product, or a list of customers.

Who will run it. Meta named Chirantan “CJ” Desai Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, reporting directly to Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg said Desai joins from MongoDB, where he was chief executive and president. The same statement says that before MongoDB he led product and engineering at Cloudflare, and that he spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including as president and chief operating officer.

Desai’s own statement is on that same Meta page. He said the platform will turn Meta’s AI stack into products and services companies can deploy for their own businesses. He said security and privacy are built into those products from the start, the way they are with Muse. He said the goal is to make Meta the place enterprises come to scale their businesses. Those lines are his, inside the company announcement. They are not a price, a contract, or a ship date.

MongoDB told its side the same morning. MongoDB, Inc., the database company that trades as MDB, said Desai stepped down as president and chief executive effective immediately, to pursue a senior role at Meta Platforms, Inc. PR Newswire carried the release at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, datelined New York. MongoDB’s investor page carries the same text, dated 28 September 2026. The board appointed Dev Ittycheria interim president and chief executive, also effective immediately. MongoDB said Ittycheria previously led the company as president and chief executive from 2014 to 2025, and that annual revenue in those years grew from about $35 million to more than $2.3 billion. That span is MongoDB’s account of his earlier run. It is not a forecast for Meta’s new pillar.

What MongoDB said happens next. The board has started a search for a permanent chief executive and hired a search firm to help. The company said it is standing by the outlook it gave on 1 September 2026 for the third quarter and the full fiscal year 2027. Guidance is the company’s own forecast of its results. Standing by it means MongoDB is not changing that forecast because Desai left. MongoDB also said it will hold an investor day on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Eastern, at Nasdaq’s MarketSite in New York.

Reuters reported the same day, separately, that MongoDB shares fell 18 percent in morning trading after the departure. Eighteen percent is about a fifth of the stock’s price, lost in that morning session. Reuters also said Desai is leaving after less than a year as chief executive. That length is Reuters’s. Meta’s newsroom and MongoDB’s release do not say how long he held the job.

What Muse is, in Reuters’s account of this launch. Reuters said Meta launched Muse earlier in September, and described it as a personal AI agent that can take actions for a person, including shopping, booking travel, sending email, and making payments. An agent, here, means software that can do those tasks, not only answer a question. Reuters said Monday’s platform packages Meta’s models, agents, and tools for businesses, and it names Muse, Meta Business Agent, and coding tools. Reuters does not print the names Muse API or Muse Code. Those two names are on Meta’s page.

Plain English for the rest of the card. Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent that can act for a user. Meta Enterprise Platform is the new part of the company that packages that AI stack for businesses and developers, not only for people using Muse on their own. Desai is the executive Meta hired to run it, and the person MongoDB said left the top job the same morning. The picture is a screenshot of Meta’s newsroom page for the announcement, with the headline and the statement that names the Muse stack and Desai.
