Meta unveils Meta VR Glasses — ~100g VR in a glasses form factor

At Meta Connect, Meta introduced Meta VR Glasses — a ~100-gram VR glasses system with a clip-on compute puck, IMAX Enhanced cinema, immersive sports, and a private multi-screen workspace — going on sale Spring 2027 for $1,299.99.

HARDWARE desk — Meta just put a full VR cinema and desktop into something that looks like glasses and weighs as much as a deck of cards; if it actually ships light and clear in 2027, the headset-on-your-face era gets a real challenger.

What the post says the device is. Meta calls Meta VR Glasses its most advanced device yet: a personal cinema, a courtside seat, a workspace, and a gaming console, in a pair of glasses that weighs about 100 grams. About 100 grams is roughly the weight of a deck of cards. That comparison is the post’s. The takeaway says this is a new era for virtual reality in glasses you can comfortably wear for hours. Virtual reality, shortened to VR, means a full digital view, not a see-through lens with a small caption. These lines are Meta’s. This desk did not wear the glasses and did not put them on a scale.

How the weight comes off the face. The post says the glasses are five times lighter than Meta Quest 3, mainly because of a two-part system. Quest 3 is Meta’s strapped headset. Five times lighter is Meta’s comparison. This desk did not weigh a Quest 3. The glasses handle the sensors and the display. A puck, connected by a cable the post calls an optical tether, handles the compute, the battery, and the storage, and clips to a pocket or a bag. A puck here is a small clip-on computer and battery brick. Compute means the chip that draws the picture. There are no straps and no heavy hardware on the face. Open sides and a passthrough camera are meant to keep you aware of what is nearby, so a full movie or private work on a long flight still leaves a sense of the room. Passthrough means the cameras show the real room while you wear the glasses.

The picture and the sound, as the post states them. Meta VR Glasses use a 5K Infinite Display built on micro-OLED panels, at 37 pixels per degree. 5K Infinite Display is Meta’s name for the screen. The post does not print a pixel width behind the word 5K. A micro-OLED panel is a tiny screen that makes its own light. Pixels per degree is how many picture dots fit in one degree of what you see. Thirty-seven is Meta’s figure, and the post says that density is there for text you can read. Ultra-compact pancake lenses, built for this device, are the reason the post gives for putting cinema-grade clarity in something that looks like glasses. Pancake lenses are thin, folded lenses. Dolby Vision is the picture format the post names for vivid color, sharp contrast, and lifelike detail. Dolby Atmos, spatial audio, is integrated directly into the frames. Spatial audio means the sound can sit around you, not only in a flat stereo pair. These are Meta’s claims. This desk did not measure the pixels.

The chip, the battery, and the assistant. The glasses are powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Reality Elite processor. The post says that chip is there for a high-performance experience, fast load times, and efficiency. The puck battery delivers up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback and supports 45W fast charging. Up to three hours is the ceiling for that playback job, not a promise for every use. 45W is 45 watts, the fast-charge rate the post names. This desk did not time a charge. Meta AI, the company’s assistant, is integrated into the operating system. You can talk to the glasses, or use your eyes and natural hand gestures, to play a movie, open an app, adjust the workspace, or search. No controllers needed. An operating system is the software the device runs on. A controller, here, is a handheld wand. These lines are the post’s. This desk did not run a gesture.

The cinema claim. Meta VR Glasses are the first ever IMAX Enhanced certified VR device, and one of the only ways the post names to watch select films in IMAX’s exclusive expanded aspect ratio at home. IMAX Enhanced is a certification for picture and sound. Expanded aspect ratio means a taller frame than a normal wide screen. The post does not print the exact ratio. In November, Disney+ subscribers can start streaming movies such as Marvel’s The Avengers and Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, and more, in 3D in select countries, inside themed rooms the post names: Tatooine, Avengers Tower, and Scare Floor. A separate line covers VR Enhanced versions of Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope in a new Disney Immersive Cinema app by ILM, with immersive rooms, dynamic effects, 3D, and spatial audio. November is the post’s month for that Disney+ start. It is not the glasses’ on-sale date.

Who else is on the media list, and whose sentence each count is. The post says it is working with Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, ESPN, Tubi, and more, “to provide the best media lineup of any VR device.” Best lineup is Meta’s comparative. This desk did not count another headset’s catalog. Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+ are offering their 3D media catalogs for the very first time. That sentence is the post’s. It does not add the words “on this platform.” The library will keep growing, with thousands of titles available internationally by launch, including 3D favorites from Lionsgate. Meta is also partnering with director James Cameron and Lightstorm Vision to debut “first time in 3D” blockbusters in 2027. Thousands, Lionsgate, and the Cameron line are the post’s. This desk did not open the apps.

Sports, with the two counts kept apart. The takeaway says courtside seats for 100-plus immersive live US sports events each year, with ESPN, TNT Sports, and more. The body says Meta worked with ESPN on “Immersive Sports”: a front-row seat, 8K streaming, and 180-degree views, starting with college football this year on Meta Quest, and more sports in 2027. 8K is a very sharp video picture. 180-degree means a view that wraps halfway around you. Once Meta VR Glasses launch, the post says there will be over 100 immersive live sports events to watch each year, with partners MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC. The body’s “over 100” sentence does not repeat the takeaway’s word US. Do not merge the two sentences into one number. College football on Quest this year is not the glasses’ launch. These lines are Meta’s. This desk did not watch a game in the headset.

The workspace and the games. The glasses give you a massive screen, or several, as a private place to work, wherever you are. Any flat surface can become a keyboard and a touchpad, so a reply does not need a keyboard you carried in. Full-color passthrough lets you still see your desk, your phone, and the room. For games, there will be more than 75 titles at launch that you play only with hand gestures. Xbox Cloud Gaming, which the post prints as XBOX Cloud Gaming, streams hundreds more. More than 75, and hundreds, are the post’s counts. This desk did not play one.

Hologram calling, as the post describes it. Meta is introducing hologram technology: a photorealistic digital version of you, including real-time expressions and reactions, for hands-free video calls on the glasses. Photorealistic means the post’s aim is a person who looks like a person, not a cartoon. When you see someone’s hologram, they appear in front of you, and spatial audio puts their voice where they are, so it feels like the same room. If other people join from a phone or a computer, they see your hologram on their screen. It works with whichever calling app you are using, from WhatsApp to Zoom. Hands-free means no controller in the hand for the call. These lines are Meta’s. This desk did not place a call.

When it is for sale, and what that date is not. Meta VR Glasses will go on sale in Spring 2027 for $1,299.99 USD. Spring 2027 is a season, not a day. $1,299.99 is one thousand two hundred ninety-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents, in US dollars. The post does not print a tax, a shipping fee, a regional price, or a preorder. It does not say the glasses are on sale on 23 Sep 2026. This desk did not order a pair.

Plain English for the rest of the card. VR is a full digital view. A puck is the clip-on computer and battery on a thin cable. Passthrough is the camera view of the real room. 100 grams is about a deck of cards, Meta’s comparison. Five times lighter is Meta’s comparison with Quest 3. 37 pixels per degree is Meta’s sharpness figure. A pancake lens is a thin folded lens. Dolby Vision is the vivid picture format. Dolby Atmos is the spatial sound in the frames. IMAX Enhanced is the certification the post says no VR device had before. Snapdragon Reality Elite is the Qualcomm chip. Three hours is the battery ceiling for continuous high-resolution media. 45W is the fast-charge rate. More than 75 is the hand-gesture game count at launch. Hundreds more is the cloud-gaming line. 100-plus US events is the takeaway. Over 100 events, without the word US, is the body, with MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC. 8K and 180-degree are the ESPN Immersive Sports lines. College football this year is on Quest, not on these glasses. $1,299.99 and Spring 2027 are the price and the on-sale window. 7:42 a.m. Eastern is the page’s published machine stamp. 7:42 p.m. Eastern is the modified stamp. The visible byline has no hour.

The about-100-gram weight, the deck-of-cards line, five times lighter than Quest 3, the two-part system, the optical tether, the pocket-or-bag clip, the open sides, the passthrough camera, the 5K Infinite Display, the micro-OLED panels, 37 pixels per degree, the pancake lenses, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos in the frames, Snapdragon Reality Elite, up to three hours, 45W, Meta AI in the operating system, no controllers, the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device, the expanded aspect ratio line, the November Disney+ 3D titles and themed rooms, the ILM app, the partner list, the Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+ first-time 3D catalogs, the thousands of titles, Lionsgate, the Cameron and Lightstorm line, the takeaway’s 100-plus US sports events, the body’s over-100 events with MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC, ESPN Immersive Sports with 8K and 180-degree views starting with college football on Quest, the multi-screen workspace, the flat-surface keyboard, full-color passthrough, more than 75 hand-gesture games, Xbox Cloud Gaming, hologram calling with WhatsApp and Zoom, and Spring 2027 at $1,299.99 are the post’s. NOT claimed: that the article body says Meta Connect, that this desk wore the glasses or weighed a Quest 3, a pixel width behind the word 5K, an exact IMAX ratio, that “best media lineup” was audited, that the 3D catalogs are a first only on this platform, that college football on Quest is the glasses’ launch, that the two sports counts are one sentence, a day inside Spring 2027, a tax or a regional price, a battery time outside high-resolution media, a stock tip, or investment advice. Distinct from the already-filed deepmind-private-ai-memory, google-gemini-38-flash-tts, and nvidia-dlss-5, and from the same-day Ray-Ban Meta Audio post.
