NSA creates AI mission center in biggest overhaul in a decade, WaPo reports

The Washington Post reported that the National Security Agency is doing its biggest internal rebuild in about a decade, splitting the spy agency into five “mission centers,” including one for AI. Recorded Future News ran the same story the same day. The NSA did not comment.

America’s electronic-spy agency is putting AI on the same org-chart rank as China and cyber. That is a staffing and priority story — not a new weapon — and the NSA has not confirmed it.

The Washington Post reported that the National Security Agency is set for its most extensive internal restructuring in at least a decade. The NSA is America’s biggest electronic-spy agency. It collects signals intelligence — phone, internet, and other electronic traffic — and also works on cybersecurity. Headquarters is at Fort Meade, Maryland. Army Gen. Joshua M. Rudd also runs U.S. Cyber Command, the military cyber unit that shares that campus.
