SimScale puts an engineering AI agent inside Onshape CAD

SimScale launched an Engineering AI Agent that runs inside PTC’s Onshape cloud CAD, available through the Onshape App Store and announced at IMTS 2026 in Chicago. From a single prompt, the company says the agent can propose a simulation setup, prepare CAD geometry, run physics (CFD, thermal, electromagnetic, FEA), and explain results in plain engineering language — without handing the job to a specialist or leaving Onshape.

SOFTWARE desk — same-day company primary that moves validation-grade physics simulation into the CAD moment via an agent, shrinking the handoff between designers and simulation specialists.

Delivery, company: the agent is an integrated app through the Onshape App Store. Onshape users need to enable it before it appears in their workspace, the same way any other Onshape app is accessed. File that enable-first picture as SimScale’s. This desk is not claiming every Onshape tenant has it on by default. This desk did not enable the app.

Workflow, still company: from a single prompt the agent reasons through the full simulation workflow — proposing a setup, preparing CAD geometry that has not yet been cleaned up for simulation, meshing the geometry, running the physics, and interpreting the results in plain engineering language — without the engineer leaving Onshape or handing the job to a specialist. The engineer can step in at any point to adjust a setup, override a boundary condition, or review assumptions before handing control back. File that one-prompt / intervene picture as SimScale’s. This desk did not send a prompt.

Physics covered, company: the same CFD, thermal, electromagnetic (Emag), and FEA capability used for validation-grade simulation elsewhere on SimScale. CFD means computational fluid dynamics — how air and liquids flow. FEA means finite element analysis — stress and structure. Emag means electromagnetic. Simulation here means testing a design with physics math before building a physical prototype. “Validation-grade” is SimScale’s wording for the physics it already sells, not an independent certification this desk ran. File that physics list as SimScale’s.

Agent API, still company: the agent runs on the SimScale Agent API, which the company says keeps every run auditable, keeps data under the customer’s existing governance, and provisions compute automatically. File that audit / governance / auto-compute picture as SimScale’s. This desk did not inspect an API log.

Scale claim and customer anecdote — company-attributed, not independent Bad Signal audits: the reasoning layer sits on a platform already used by more than 900,000 engineers. Withings is cited as cutting its design-to-prototype cycle 7x by moving simulation earlier. File the more-than-900,000 figure and the Withings 7x as SimScale’s. This desk did not count users or watch a Withings cycle.

Named voices on the company page: Jon Wilde, VP Product, SimScale; and Greg Brown, VP of Product at Onshape by PTC. File the names and titles as theirs, via SimScale. Their quotes are color only and stay in Sources. Brown’s line is Onshape / PTC via the SimScale release — not a separate PTC newsroom primary.

About-box context, optional and company-attributed: SimScale calls itself the AI-native cloud platform for engineering simulation and says it is trusted by more than 900,000 users. PTC is named as a global software company headquartered in Boston that employs over 7,000 people and supports more than 30,000 customers. File those about-box lines as theirs, via SimScale. This desk is not inventing a SimScale price. None was printed.

Plain English for the rest of the card: CAD = computer-aided design, the 3D model. CFD = computational fluid dynamics, how air and liquids flow. FEA = finite element analysis, stress and structure. simulation = testing a design with physics math before building a physical prototype. agent = AI that can run multi-step tool workflows, not just chat. App Store here = Onshape’s in-product app catalog, not Apple’s.

PRIMARY here: SimScale’s 15 Sep 2026 company press page — Tier A PRIMARY company source, the original record. The Onshape App Store listing is product-store context the company linked, not a second originating newsroom. The Engineering AI Agent launch inside Onshape, the IMTS 2026 Chicago announce, the App Store / enable-before-it-appears delivery, the one-prompt propose-setup / prepare-CAD / mesh / run / explain workflow, the engineer-can-intervene line, the CFD / thermal / Emag / FEA physics list, the Agent API audit / governance / auto-compute picture, the more-than-900,000 engineers line, the Withings 7x customer anecdote, the Wilde and Brown titles, and the SimScale / PTC about-box lines are company-attributed. Capability lists and the Withings 7x stay company-attributed — not independently verified here. Brown’s quote is Onshape / PTC via SimScale. NOT claimed: pricing, ARR, a SimScale valuation, independent accuracy benchmarks, that every Onshape tenant has the app enabled by default, that this desk tested the agent, a stock tip, or investment advice. On 15 Sep 2026 SimScale announced the Engineering AI Agent accessible within PTC’s Onshape cloud-native CAD and PDM platform, with the news announced at IMTS 2026 in Chicago. CAD means computer-aided design — the 3D model. PDM means product data management — the files and versions around that model. IMTS is the International Manufacturing Technology Show. The company PRIMARY is SimScale’s press page “SimScale Launches Engineering AI Agent for Onshape,” datelined MUNICH, September 15, 2026. The same page’s schema dates the piece 2026-09-15T12:00:00+00:00. That company page is the filing event. These are company claims. This desk did not run the agent or sit in Onshape.
